It’s one of the first questions every couple asks: how much does a wedding DJ cost? The honest answer is that it depends on how many hours you need, whether you want your DJ to host the day, and which extras you add. Here’s a straightforward guide to wedding DJ prices in Yorkshire, using our own packages as a real example.
What affects the price of a wedding DJ?
- Hours of music. Most evening packages cover around five hours, from your first dance to midnight.
- Hosting. A DJ who also acts as your wedding host, running introductions, speeches and key moments through the day, costs more than an evening-only DJ.
- Setup and lighting. A clean, professional booth with quality sound and lighting looks better in your photos and fills the dancefloor.
- Extras. Uplighting, cold spark fountains, an LED dancefloor or light-up letters are usually priced on top.
- Experience. An experienced wedding DJ reads the room, handles the timeline and has backup equipment if anything goes wrong.

How do you pay?
A £100 booking fee secures your date, and the balance is due 14 days before your wedding. There are no surprise costs on the day.
Is a cheap wedding DJ worth the risk?
A lower price can be tempting, but your DJ shapes the whole evening: the first dance, the atmosphere and how long your guests stay on the dancefloor. Before you book any DJ, ask to see their setup, read their reviews and check they have backup equipment and a written contract.
Questions to ask before you book
- How many weddings have you played?
- Can we plan the music together, including must-play and do-not-play songs?
- Will you also host the day, or just play in the evening?
- What happens if your equipment fails or you’re ill?
- What exactly is included in the price?
