You’ve booked your DJ, but what actually happens on the night? Here’s how a typical Events DJ wedding evening runs, from set-up to the last song, so you know exactly what to expect and what to plan for.
Before the day
The work starts long before your wedding. After you book, you get access to our online planning portal, where you add your music choices, key moments and timings. About four weeks before the wedding we have a final call together to run through everything, so nothing is left to chance on the day.
- Must-play songs: the tracks that have to be heard.
- Do-not-play songs: just as important.
- Key moments: your entrance, first dance, cake cutting and last song.
- Timings: when the evening starts, when food is served and when the night ends.
Set-up: one hour before
We arrive and set up around an hour before the evening starts, usually while your day guests are finishing the wedding breakfast or speeches. Our all-white booth, sound and lighting are ready before your evening guests arrive, so there’s no disruption once the party begins.
7pm: evening guests arrive
As evening guests arrive, we play relaxed background music to suit the room. It’s the time for drinks, catching up and settling in, so we keep the volume and energy at a level where people can still chat.
Your first dance
This is usually the moment the evening really begins. We’ll introduce you, play your chosen song and time any effects, such as cold spark fountains if you’ve booked them, to the music. Once you’ve had your moment, we invite your guests to join you and the party starts.
Building the dancefloor
The first hour of dancing sets the tone. We start with songs that bring all ages onto the floor, then read the room and build the energy. Your must-plays are woven in at the right moments rather than played all at once.
Evening food
Many couples serve evening food around 9pm. We bring the music down while people eat, then bring them back to the dancefloor with a strong set straight afterwards.
The peak of the party
From around 9.30pm to the end of the night is when the dancefloor is usually busiest. This is where your guest requests, big singalongs and floor-fillers come into play.
The last song: midnight
Our evening packages run until midnight. We’ll play your chosen last song and wish you well as you leave the dancefloor. If you’re not ready to stop, you can keep the party going after midnight in half-hour steps, up to 2am. See our packages for details.
Pack down
We pack down quietly and are usually out of the venue within 45 minutes of the end of the night, so your venue can close on time.
