Getting Married at Danby Castle
Off Castle Lane near the village of Danby, in the North York Moors National Park, Danby Castle combines the ruins of a 14th-century castle with a working wedding venue looking out over open moorland. It lies inland from Whitby, the setting feels wonderfully remote, and there is parking for up to around 50 cars.
There is a choice of four licensed ceremony settings. The historic Court Room offers an intimate indoor option inside the old castle, The Barn provides a larger covered space, The Lawn looks straight out over the moors, and The Ruins suit smaller gatherings who want something truly atmospheric. Afterwards, the wedding breakfast takes place in the Daleview Barn, which seats up to around 180, with in-house catering throughout. There is no accommodation on site, but the team can suggest places to stay nearby, and dogs are welcome as long as a sitter is on hand.
Your Evening Party at Danby Castle
The Daleview Barn carries on into the evening, holding up to around 220 guests, with a bar and dancefloor alongside. After the meal we set up during the turnaround while guests take in the views or gather at the bar. Our all-white DJ booth and uplighting look striking against the barn’s timbers as darkness falls over the moors, and cold spark fountains can be considered with the venue for your first dance.
Danby Castle has a sound limiter set at 85 decibels, which is fairly tight, so we plan the setup with that firmly in mind. Speaker placement, careful mixing and choosing tracks that sound full at a controlled level all help the dancefloor feel lively without tripping the limiter. Outdoor music is allowed for the ceremony and drinks reception, which we can cover too.
