Your Wedding Day at The Croft Hotel
The Croft Hotel takes its name from Croft-on-Tees, a historic village on the River Tees just south of Darlington, right on the border between North Yorkshire and County Durham. It is run by the same team behind Newton Hall and Le Petit Chateau, and it has been reimagined with a strong botanical, slightly whimsical style that photographs beautifully.
Ceremonies take place in the Secret Garden Chapel, a striking room with hidden doors, tall mirrors and willow trees, where a raised stone aisle leads up to the altar. From there guests pass through the Secret Garden into the Garden Suite, which hosts both the meal and the evening, with a wisteria canopy overhead, chandeliers and bare brick walls. A huge sliding glass wall opens out onto a garden with fire pits, water features and a retractable roof. Weddings here typically range from around 30 to 100 guests, and there is wedding party accommodation with private gardens and a hot tub, alongside the hotel’s other bedrooms.
Turning the Garden Suite into a Dance Floor
Because the Garden Suite hosts both dining and dancing, there is a turnaround after the meal. Guests head out to the fire pits while the tables are reset, and we use that window to get everything in place. With the wisteria and chandeliers already doing so much, we keep our styling clean: the all-white DJ booth, soft uplighting to pick out the brickwork, and cold spark fountains for the first dance if the venue gives them the go-ahead. On warm evenings that glass wall makes the party spill into the garden, which Wayne keeps in mind when planning the music.
