Celebrating at The Tithe Barn, Bolton Abbey
On the Duke of Devonshire’s Bolton Abbey estate near Skipton, The Tithe Barn is a Grade II* listed stone barn thought to date from the 16th century, when it collected tithes for Bolton Priory. Historic England counts it as a rare survival for the north of England, and its 2019 restoration by the Cripps Barn Group earned a RIBA conservation award. Inside, nine king-post timber frames run the length of an aisled hall, so the structure itself becomes the decoration.
It is also one of the larger exclusive-use barns in the country. The barn is licensed for civil ceremonies for up to 200 guests, with the same number for the feast, and up to 300 for drinks and dancing. In summer, vows can move outside to the terrace, where the view takes in the ruins of the priory. Couples who prefer a church service can marry locally and bring everyone back to the barn. An open kitchen, underfloor heating, fires, candlelight and outdoor fire pits keep things warm on cooler Dales evenings, and the venue can point guests towards places to stay nearby.

Evenings here have a real sense of occasion. The barn has its own Funktion-One sound system, which our team will work alongside, and the long hall gives a clear focal point for the dancefloor once the feast is cleared. Our all-white DJ booth and soft uplighting along the timber frames sit well against the old stone, and cold spark fountains can add drama to the first dance if the venue agrees on the day.
The barn holds a late licence until 1am, which gives plenty of time for a proper party.
