Celebrating at Waterton Park Hotel
About four miles from Wakefield, in the village of Walton, Waterton Park Hotel is one of the most unusual wedding venues in West Yorkshire. At its centre stands Walton Hall, a listed Georgian mansion that sits on its own island in a 26-acre lake, reached only by an 18th-century wrought iron footbridge. The bridge is thought to be among the oldest of its kind in the country, and it makes a memorable walk for any couple and a favourite spot for photographs.
The venue combines that historic house with a more modern hotel on the lakeside, set in rolling parkland close to ancient woodland. Couples can marry in Walton Hall on the island, which has its own private reception and dining rooms, and then celebrate in the hotel, with the County Suite among the spaces used for receptions. The venue can seat around 146 for a wedding breakfast and host up to roughly 180 in the evening. With 63 bedrooms, including bridal and honeymoon suites, plus an on-site spa, guests can stay over and make the most of the setting the following morning.
How We Plan Your Evening at Waterton Park
Because the venue is split between the island hall and the lakeside hotel, the evening often moves into a different space from the ceremony, which gives us time to set up the dancefloor while you are out on the bridge for photos. We confirm with the venue team which room your party will use and plan the layout around it. Our all-white DJ booth suits both the period rooms and the more contemporary suites, and uplighting adds warmth once darkness falls over the lake. Cold spark fountains can be added for the first dance if the venue agrees.
