Getting Married at Wood Hall Hotel & Spa
Overlooking the River Wharfe near Linton and Wetherby, Wood Hall is a Grade II listed Georgian country house built around 1750, with architect John Carr credited for its design. It was a retreat for the Vavasour family, whose ties to the estate go back to the Middle Ages, and later served as a prep school and a diocesan pastoral centre before opening as a hotel in 1988. Today it sits in more than 100 acres of gardens and woodland with long views over the Wharfe Valley.
There are several settings for your vows. Inside, the Vavasour Suite, with its chandeliers and tall windows, holds up to 100, while The Georgian is a more intimate room for around 60 with floor-to-ceiling views across the valley. Outside, ceremonies can take place in the Italian Gardens or on the front steps beneath the pillared entrance. The wedding breakfast is served in the Vavasour Suite, and up to 150 guests can join for the evening. With exclusive use, the house is yours from midday until a private breakfast the next morning, and the hotel’s 44 bedrooms, gym, indoor pool and steam room make it easy for guests to stay on.
How We Plan the Evening at Wood Hall
As the Vavasour Suite hosts both the meal and the party, the room is turned around after dinner while guests take drinks outside or wander the gardens. A wooden dancefloor and private bar come with exclusive use, and we position our all-white DJ booth so it frames the floor against those grand windows. Uplighting complements the chandeliers once darkness falls, and cold spark fountains can add a striking finish to the first dance if the hotel approves them.
