Celebrating Your Wedding at Askham Hall
Askham Hall stands in the village of Askham near Penrith, just inside the Lake District National Park, and its story reaches back to the 1200s. Today it is a relaxed country house with a Michelin-starred restaurant, landscaped gardens, open parkland, a heated outdoor pool and a pond full of ducks and geese. Weddings are exclusive use with a minimum two-night stay, so the celebration naturally becomes a whole weekend rather than a single day.
Couples can marry in the historic house, in an outdoor garden pavilion or in the bank barn, with room for up to 150 guests for both the ceremony and the seated meal. The wedding breakfast comes from the hall’s own kitchen, which is a real treat for food lovers. The hall has 19 bedrooms, and its sister inns, The Queen’s Head and The George and Dragon, add more rooms close by. Dogs are welcome too, so the family pet can be part of the day.
How the Evening Works at Askham Hall
The bank barn is the natural home for the party, with a dancefloor and standing space for around 200 once evening guests arrive. It does have a sound limiter, put in place to respect the neighbours in the village, so we plan our setup around it. That means positioning speakers carefully, keeping the sound clean rather than simply loud, and reading the room so the floor stays full without tripping the limiter. Our all-white DJ booth and warm uplighting sit beautifully against the barn’s stone and timber, and we check with the events team before suggesting cold spark fountains.
