A Lakeside Wedding at Holbeck Ghyll
Holbeck Ghyll sits high on the slopes above Lake Windermere, on the road between Windermere and Ambleside, with long views across the water to the Langdale fells. The house was built in the late nineteenth century as a hunting lodge for Lord Lonsdale and has been a country house hotel since the 1970s. Inside, an oak-panelled entrance hall with a fireplace sets the tone, and the restaurant has long been known for its fine dining.
This is a venue for smaller, more intimate celebrations. It is licensed for civil ceremonies of up to around 60 guests, and the wedding breakfast is served on site for a similar number. Couples who want a little more space can add an orangery or marquee, while the gardens give photographers plenty to work with, especially with the lake below. Accommodation comes in the main house and in lodges within the grounds, including a honeymoon suite, so your guests can make a proper Lake District break of it.
